Rather than receiving an email from the business owner telling me that they have a real website address (example.com) this is the email that I received from someone operating on behalf of loc8nearme.com
This is the actual message they sent:
Hello,
I hope you're doing well!
Please update the listing
https://www.redacted.com/antiques/redacted-antiques
for the (Redacted) Antiques
Could you please include the link to our website:
https://www.loc8nearme.com/pennsylvania/redacted-antiques/123456/

I did some quick research and found that the Antique store in question does, in fact, have their own website. So instead of doing nothing, or informing me that the antique store's website address is missing, they had the audacity to reach out and try to trick me into linking to loc8nearme.com instead. In the interest of playing nice, I went ahead and updated the business listing in question to include the correct website address, instead of the spam link they were hoping I would add.
By way of comparison, below is a better example of a link building email. As you can see, the person is using their actual work email, instead of a Gmail account. They found a page on my site where they felt a link could be obtained, and they reached out with a quick introduction.
