Scam Alert

I received another "Is this legit?" questions from a client today, and wanted to share so that others can also avoid this.

These people are combining “SEO” with “Registration” in their tactics, which is total shenanigans… it’s like a mechanic telling you that your car needs a new muffler bearing.  There is no such thing. 

I recently received an email that is referenced in this forum thread.  I was going to post my response on this other site but it tried to get me to sign up for a premium plan in order to post a response.  Instead, I am posting it here:

Just received a call from "Windows Support Tech" and the guy tried to pull one of these Support Scams referenced here and here.  It's surprising that they are still trying this scam, years later.

This guy called from "Suzan Champagne" - number 1-450-623-7415

We've heard from multiple clients who have received letters in the mail from Domain Registry of America (DROA).  Read carefully - this is a solicitation.  They are trying to trick domain owners into transferring their registrations to DROA.  If you are happy with your current registrar (we suggest GoDaddy), you don't have to do anything!
